Special merit award for Chernobyl aid volunteer PDF Print E-mail

Liam Grant of Chernobyl Aid Ireland Awarded a Special Merit at the annual maternity & infant Awards, in association with Hibernian Aviva Health. Liam works in Waterford Regional Hospital as an ambulance driver and lives in Listerlin, South Kilkenny and previously lived at Ballybeg, Waterford.

At the annual maternity & infant Awards in association with Hibernian Aviva Health, Liam Grant was awarded a special merit for his work with Chernobyl Aid Ireland. The Special Merit award goes to a very deserving man. Having volunteered for many years after the Chernobyl Disaster, Liam decided that in order to effect real change, resources would be better utilised if focused on one specific orphanage. In 1997, he set up Chernobyl Aid Ireland, and this charity "adopted" the Grozovo School Orphanage in rural Belarus.

Since 1998, Grozovo has been completely transformed. The initial project has become bigger and better over the years, with over 100 volunteers making the trip to Grozovo at any one time.

This is the second year of the maternity & infant Awards. This year, 10 people received awards for outstanding contribution whether in their working or home life, and 13 products / services were awarded for excellence in quality. Over 24,000 votes were cast online for this year’s awards.
