Waterford City Centre retail has been hit by the Liquidation of Sasha, who had been trading out of Broad Street for some time.
The news comes as a disaster for the Irish economy as 300 jobs have been lost from their 42 stores across the country with in excess of six jobs going in Waterford as a result. The Dungarvan Sasha store will close with jobs also being lost there.
Anne-Marie Caulfield of Waterford Chamber's Retail committee said that she was saddened by the loss of the national retailer and that these have been very challenging times for retail trade in the city.
On whether a replacement could be found on par with Sasha, Anne-Marie Caulfield said that they will be hard to replace but that the area was prime location for retail trade.
John Roberts Square has already been hit by the closure of the Mortgage Store and the the planned move by Enterprise Homecare from the adjacent Arundel Square area of the city centre.
