Deadline extended for views on use of agricultural vehicles on public roads PDF Print E-mail

The Road Safety Authority is advising the public that the deadline for the submission of views on the use of agricultural vehicles on public roads has been extended. The closing date for receipt of comments is now Friday 26th September 2008.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is inviting the public to submit their views on a consultation document regarding the use of agricultural and works vehicles on public roads. The RSA is also seeking the input of individuals, companies, organisations and associations involved in the use, sale and hire of agricultural vehicles and works machinery.

The RSA has produced the consultation document to get the views, concerns and recommendations of individuals and organisations with experience of or interest in the use of agricultural/work vehicles on our roads.

The consultation document, The Use of Agricultural Vehicles and Works Vehicles on Public Roads, includes information on the current legal position, compliance issues, current policy and practice as well as international policy and best practice. It reviews options for consideration and seeks to get views from all concerned to best inform policy recommendations to the Minister for Transport.

Noel Brett, Chief Executive, Road Safety Authority said: "We want to hear from members of the public, organisations and associations who have views or concerns on the use of agricultural/works vehicles on our roads. This is your opportunity to debate the current position, share with us your experience, knowledge and expertise, and give us your recommendations on the issue. This will form the basis of proposals we will put forward to the Minister for Transport. Together, we have a chance to shape policy in relation to agricultural and works vehicles on Irish roads into the future."

The consultation document is available from the RSA at www.rsa.ie under publications. The title of the document is Agriculture and Works Vehicles Report. Views can be submitted to the RSA up to 26th September 2008 via post or email at agvehiclesatrsa.ie
