Photographer to showcase less familiar work in Kilkenny Arts Festival exhibition PDF Print E-mail

A southeast-based photographer whose work is most commonly seen in national and regional newspapers is to showcase some of his less familiar and more abstract work in an exhibition as part of Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Dylan Vaughan who regularly has work published in Irish Times, Irish Independent, Irish Examiner, Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Mirror and The Star as well as regional newspapers across the southeast and elsewhere in the country has selected a series of abstract and landscape images along with portraits for the exhibition at Grennan Mill Craft School, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny.

Looking ahead to the exhibition, Dylan Vaughan who has worked as a professional photographer since 1989 said many of the photographs to be shown would be unrecognisable from his press and public relations work.

"While every day is different, the work I do for various publications and PR clients requires a specific type of photography and one of the refreshing things for me about this exhibition is that it's a chance to look at some of the other work I've done, often when there's been no particular client or deadline and I'm not consciously looking out for a photo.

"Having worked in Kilkenny since 1995 and often been involved as a photographer covering various aspects of Kilkenny Arts Festival, I'm delighted to have some of my own photos included in an exhibition as part of the festival which continues to go from strength to strength in this its 35th year."

The exhibition which will run from 10am-6pm, August 8-17 will also feature work by Clare-based textile artist Nicola Henley. Inspired by birds in flight, Nicola's textiles are made by a combination of dying, painting and screen-printing cotton calico and texturing the surface with various materials stitched into the cloth.

The opening weekend of the exhibition (August 9-10) is likely to be a busy one in Thomastown with the Dysart Festival taking place nearby.
