Waterford-based IVAX Pharmaceuticals Ireland, part of Teva Group, has signed a three year sponsorship agreement which will provide financial and other support for the St Saviour’s GAA Club, based in Ballybeg, Waterford, close to the company’s three manufacturing facilities at the IDA Industrial Park.
Tom McCabe, IVAX General Manager, said: "We undertook to sponsor the St Saviour’s GAA Club as our main ‘Sport in the Community’ project over the next three years, because of the high level of involvement in the club by many of our own employees. We were also very impressed by the dedication of all involved in the club, both at player and club levels. We believe that sponsoring St Saviours is an appropriate way for IVAX to contribute to the local community where we are based and of which we are a part."
Paddy McMahon, Head of Human Resources at IVAX, added: "St Saviour’s GAA is a relatively new club, operating in a densely populated neighbourhood. The work that a number of IVAX people are putting into the club, from kids’ level to adult players, is fantastic and they have developed a sporting asset that will continue to be of benefit to the Ballybeg community into the future. We are delighted to be involved!"
St Saviour’s GAA Club was formed in 1980 and entered its first competition the following year. The Club now has teams in senior football, intermediate hurling, junior football and junior hurling. The club enjoys enthusiastic support from right across the community and people of Ballybeg.
Tony Corcoran, Chairman of the St Saviour’s GAA Club, added: "I’m really pleased that IVAX has decided to support our club. We play an active role in the community of Ballybeg and the company’s involvement in that community, and in the future of the Club, is greatly appreciated."
