T3 presents - Making Sense of the Financial Crisis in the Era of Peak Oil
Almost every time we switch on a TV or open a newspaper these days, we see or hear something about the negative impacts of climate change, the high price of fuel, or another problem with the banking sector. So how should we respond to these issues?
In recent years the 'Transition Towns' process has emerged with the aim of radically reducing energy costs, reducing carbon emissions while at the same time building economic resilience within communities.
Tramore's Transition Town Initiative is one of 800 Transition Communities worldwide – Villages, Towns, Cities and Islands – which are looking forward to the future, asking the question "how can our community respond to the challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change?", and putting together plans to enable them to prosper and thrive in an era when the impacts of the Banking crisis, Climate Change and Peak Oil force major changes on the way we live our lives.
Transition Town Tramore (T3) and Futureproof Kilkenny have come together to organise for Canadian Energy Consultant and Financial Blogger Nicole Foss to visit the South East and give a presentation entitled Making Sense of the Financial Crisis in the Era of Peak Oil.
Nicole's presentation will give a thorough overview of the problems being faced within the financial system, and explain how it relates to the problems being experienced in the energy production system.
"There is a very close relationship between the problems in the financial sector and the problems in the energy sector, and we need to come up with solutions to both if we are to get our economy back on track" says Stan Nangle, a founder member of T3. "Nicole is an Internationally renowned expert in this area with the ability to pull the whole picture together and present it in a very straightforward and understandable way". Ms Foss, who blogs under the name Stoneleigh at The Automatic Earth website (http://theautomaticearth.blogspot.com/), recently gave a presentation at the Transition Network Conference in the UK and was critically acclaimed for the insight she gave into the cause of the financial crisis, and the solutions she proposed.
Making Sense of the Financial Crisis in the Era of Peak Oil takes place in Butler House, Patrick Street, Kilkenny at 7.30pm on Wednesday August 4th. Admission is €5 and all are welcome.
