  • Tributes pour in for late Bobby Bible

    The Mayor of Waterford, Collr. Mary Roche has led a legion of tributes to the late Robert (Bobby) Bible who died in a road traffic accident on the main Waterford/Cork Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

    Bobby who was on his way home to Carrolls Cross following a gig in Sheridans pub, Ballybricken where he performed with another well known singer, Enda Jackman when it is understood his vehicle collided with a loose horse on the main road on the city side of the former Long Haul Tavern pub.

    Gardai from Tramore were quickly on the scene and Mr. Bible was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The roadway was closed for most of Monday and diversions were in place while Gardai conducted an investigation into the tragic accident. The Gardai are asking anyone

    This week Harvey Norman presented a cheque to the amount of €9,500 to the ISPCC, their official charity partner. The sum raised is as a result of collective fundraising activities by their branches and head office staff over the past 6 months.

    Maverick Television, the maker of programmes such as ITV1's Children's Hospital and Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies, is currently filming a primetime documentary series for Sky 1 about neighbour disputes and is planning to film in Waterford.

    With International Noise Awareness Day on 27th April, now is the perfect time to address problems with neighbours.

    Last year, at least three million UK adults suffered from noisy neighbours, but over a third failed to take any action, according to the experts at Which? Legal Service.

    Neighbour noise can disrupt sleep, with six in ten people affected, while others complain that the noise makes them irritable, angry or stressed. One in ten sufferers have seen their work or health affected and yet so many of us fail to tackle the problem

  • Taking in charge of King's Court and King's Channel

    On the proposal of Collr. Davy Daniels, Waterford City Council have commenced a process to take in charge the estates of King's Court and King's Channel.

    Collr. Daniels stated that to arrive at this position has been a lengthy process and complimented the residents and the residents' association on their ongoing efforts to bring the matter to a satisfactory conclusion.

    Representations and objections may be made to the City Council on or before June 10, 2011.

  • Heat Wave masks the danger of cold water this Easter

    Our unseasonaly warm weather presents a simple danger this weekend, the cold water that many will enjoy. Cold is the greatest causation of drowning in Ireland, sea water temperatures are approximately 10° Centigrade and fresh water is colder than this.

    The CEO of Irish Water Safety, John Leech, has today warned about the increased risk of water related accidents and tragedies this weekend, thousands of marine leisure enthusiasts will take to our waters this weekend to enjoy our unique waterways. Complacency has been a factor in many Bank Holiday drownings. The public must take steps, including wearing a lifejacket to avoid becoming a drowning statistic. On average, twelve drownings occur in Ireland every month. We have lost too many people this year already, mainly because people did not wear a lifejacket.

    A new shrine of Blessed Edmund Rice will be unveiled in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity after 10.30am mass on Thursday, 5th May, the feast day of Edmund Rice. Organised by the Past Pupils Union of Mount Sion School, the shrine is a fitting tribute to the founder of the Christian and Presentation Brothers.

    At 7.30 that evening, as part of the Edmund Rice Celebration Week, Br. Martin Kenneally, Congregation Leader of the Presentation Brothers worldwide, will give a key note address in the Edmund Rice Chapel on Barrack Street at a mass presided by Fr. Pat Fitzgerald, Parish Priest of St. Paul's. Providing the music will be local group Dulcet, Waterford's first female soprano trio.
