    Pictured is Sean Reinhardt, Central Avenue, Lisduggan who has been selected by the John Halligan Independent Grouping to fill his vacancy on the City Council.

    John who was elected to the Dail in the recent General Election must under procedural rules vacate his City Council seat. According to custom the vacancy is filled by a nominee of the political party or grouping which held the seat.

    Sean is a founder member of Naomh Pól GAA club and is the current secretary. He is also a prominent community activist and was the area representative of the Rapid Area Implementation team which saw the Manor St. John House and surrounding grounds totally transformed.

    He is a former chairman of the Larchville/Lisduggan Residents Association.

    Sean is married with five children. It is expected that Sean will be co-opted at the next meeting of the City Council on

  • The Annual Mayor's Charity Gala Ball

    The Annual Mayor's Charity Gala Ball held last Saturday night in The Tower Hotel raised over €45,000 between the three nominated charities St Vincent de Paul, the Solas Cancer Centre and the Nicky Fewer Memorial Sailing Scholarship.

    In a statement from William Bolster Managing Director of the Bolster Group, he said: We are delighted to be able to commence phase one of the works on the old Foundry site which will carry out the demolishing of all derelict buildings on site. With the size of the site stretching to 13 acres this represents a very significant investment due to the nature of the buildings and its contents on what would be called a Brown Field Site.

  • Cummins Leader of Seanad Eireann

    Taoiseach Enda Kenny, T.D., appointed Waterford Senator Maurice Cummins as Leader of Seanad Éireann on Wednesday 23 March 2011.

    Senator Cummins said it was a great honour for him, his family and Waterford and he was very grateful to the Taoiseach for the honour bestowed upon him.

  • Leading UK based Food blogger for Dungarvan FoodCamp

    ONE of Europe's most acclaimed food bloggers, Niamh Shiels of the 'Eat Like A Girl' blog based in the UK, is returning to her native Dungarvan next month to take part in Ireland's second Food Camp at the Festival of Food.

  • Heritage Trail launched in Portlaw

    A series of information panels celebrating the industrial, built and natural heritage of Portlaw was unveiled to a large attendance in Malcolmson's Square last Saturday. The information panels were commissioned by Waterford Co. Council in conjunction with the Portlaw Heritage Committee and co-funded by the Heritage Council as part of Co. Waterford's Heritage Plan work programme. Attending the launch were Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Ger Barron, Deputy Paudie Coffey, Fr. Ned Hassett and Reverend George Cliffe. The heritage information panels will greatly add to the amenity and heritage interest of the town.

    Another good news story for Waterford this summer will be the opening of magnificently restored Bishop's Palace which is directly across the road from the House of Waterford Crystal, as well as a major new Viking Exhibition opening at Reginald's Tower. The Waterford Museum of Treasures, which is currently located in The Granary is in the process of moving into three new locations within the Viking Triangle area of Waterford City: The Bishop's Palace, Reginald's Tower and the purpose-built Medieval Museum (opening 2012). Patrons should note that the Tourist Office and the Granary Restaurant remain open as normal in the Granary building on the Quay, however the Waterford Museum of Treasures in the Granary is now closed to the public to facilitate the transition into the new locations.   • 2011 Special Olympics Ireland Collection Day

    Special Olympics' collection day, sponsored by eircom will take place throughout Ireland on Friday April 15th.

    This is our biggest annual fundraising event and is essential to ensuring the ongoing sustainability and growth of our programme of sport for people with an intellectual disability throughout Ireland.

    There are currently 11,000 athletes involved in Special Olympics activities in Ireland. This year Ireland 126 athletes from all over the country will represent Ireland at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens in June. Collection Day is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland and we need 3,500 volunteers to help us collect on the day.

With this in mind the kids at Gaelscoil Phillip Barun have produced thirty three art pieces which communicate how they feel about the potential catastrophic effects that climate change could have on their planet. If you would like to see how the kids feel come along to Tramore Community Radio, Main Street Tramore. The Exhibition will run to the 15th of April. Free Admission.
