  • Murphy's gig guide

    Wednesday, 21st December 2011

Waterford's Wednesday night trad/folk session saw a gathering of some of our finest musicians with Paul Grant on guitar, Richie Mac on bass and Gerry Madden on madolin.

Dylan Bible dropped in to play some soft slide guitar and later Tommy Keating treated us to some tunes on the flute and a haunting tune on the uilleann pipes.

An English chap aske me if all the bars are like this? "No" I replied, this is fairly special! Come down and you won't be disappointed, believe me.

We welcome Susan O'Neill's first proper Murphy's bar gig on Thursday 22nd. Susan has wowed audiences throughout the whole country over with her range of songs which vary from modern to old classics. Starts 9pm.

On Friday 23rd not one but three live tributes enter Murphy's Bar Sliver (Nirvana) Rockets to Russia (Ramones) and Damo Grant and Co

    Christmas handicap finals

The finals of our Christmas handicap has just finished and once again, the handicap scoring system provided some excellent games. Starting with the C section, Majellla Dunphy made great progress to make the final only to lose out to Lawrence "La" Walsh in the plate, and in the proper, it was great to see two up and coming players contest a very sporting game which saw Conor Friend come out on top in a very close game with Jimmy Morrissey.

In the B section, Colm Morrissey was up against it playing Jack Molloy who recently had success in Cork winning his division in the Munster Open, however on the night Colm had a good win and was victorious winning 3 games to 0.

    Christmas wish list

With Christmas upon us and training halted for the festive period, it's time to take a look at the Waterford Vikings Basketball clubs Christmas wish list. One thing that the club aims to do is to teach all players to be able to read a game themselves and to figure out for themselves what is going right or wrong and to be able to think about this while they are playing. To this end the club has released a parody of a famous Christmas song that aims to teach the fundamentals of basketball!

The 12 Days of Christmas has become the 12 Rules of Basketball! You can imagine

  • The clock winds down

    Wednesday, 21st December 2011

Another Christmas is upon us and frightening to think how quickly the festive seasons pass. Indeed as one gets older it appears the twelve months just gets more and more congested with one fading into another. However much we reminisce we must still just get on with it.

Last weekend saw the culmination of field activity in the county with the final game of the year, a senior football relegation playoff between city outfit St Saviours and Ballinameela who themselves made the leap from Intermediate just two short years ago. This looked on paper a titanic battle. Ballinameela who recently annexed the County Junior Hurling title and represented the county in the Provincial club championship, up against St Saviours who themselves had a very impressive win over Kilrossanty in the Senior Football Phelan Cup final. Yes indeed, all the hallmarks of
