A new departure to old Beginnings

GARTER LANE THEATRE is delighted to welcome back the inimitable Jon Kenny when he returns to the stage in Waterford on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th April at 8pm with a fantastic new show entitled Back to Front. The new show heralds a welcome return for Jon to the type of work that made his reputation, and tickets are €25 (€20 Garter Lane Friends & Concessions) and can be booked on 051-855038. Drawing on his impressive background in stand-up, comedic characterisation and music, Back to Front is another exhilarating show from the talented Kenny.

  • THE FRANKS ARE BACK

    Wednesday, 25th April 2007

The Frank & Walters Irish Tour 2007 hits Electric Avenue on Friday 4th May to kick off the bank holiday weekend in style with a free gig. Their last show at the John Street venue in December got many people’s vote as gig of the year as they played a hit filled set to a capacity crowd and even lost their shirts during the encore ! The Franks new single "Fight" is released this Friday, having been recorded recently live in Wheatfield prison, to an audience of inmates. It inspired the Franks new mantra ‘You deserve to be Happy" which is a recurring theme throughout their acclaimed studio album "A Renewed Interest In Happiness" released in Ireland last year and including the infectious Top Ten hit "Miles & Miles".

The Franks & Walters were one of Ireland’s big success stories

  • De La Salle at the summit

    Wednesday, 25th April 2007

Confidence, skill, hard work - all the ingredients that make up a winning team - that is what De La Salle carried into the All- Ireland Colleges Senior Hurling Final on Sunday last at Croke Park. Back in the Autumn of 2006 De La Salle clubman Derek McGrath realized that in the college there was the nucleus of a very good team. The former Waterford star together with his backroom set about building this group of young men into a team that could capture what is for most teams in Munster, the Dr Harty Cup. Waterford teams have a poor record in the competition with just one - Mount Sion in 1953 - reaching the pinnacle. De La Salle have also suffered the heartache of being beaten in the final on a couple of occasions but they quickly realised that

  • Time for cool heads as Blues move to bottom

    Wednesday, 25th April 2007

A goal scored by Dave Mooney after 24 minutes was good enough to send Waterford United crashing to the bottom of the league table on Friday night. Flancare Park has never been a happy hunting ground for Waterford teams in the past and that trend continued on this occasion. Following an opening day victory over Cork City, the form of this Blues team has gone from bad to worse, apart from a decent display against Derry City the previous week. A defence that leaks goals, especially from set pieces, failure to score goals and generally a lack of confidence when the other team scores has proved costly and now the question that is being asked is would this current squad of players be better off playing in the First Division?

From what we have seen during the past two months

Waterford is happily awash with acts of the highest quality right now and ranked among this elite are Deaf Animal Orchestra who launch their second CD this Friday 13th April in Phil Grimes following last year's well received 'Three Diatribes EP'. This time around the boys have opted to release a single featuring two tracks, 'All Together Now' and 'The Madman'. Both tracks were again recorded with producer Martin Quinn, who knows how to capture the energy and dynamics of their tunes. Beat FM's Rob O'Connor likes 'All Together Now' so much that upon receiving it he spun it twice on that first show! Furthermore, the tune is already receiving national airplay from Dan Hegarty of 2FM fame. You can take a listen to both tunes, 'The Madman' and 'All Together Now' over on their myspace page, www.myspace.com/deafanimalorchestra. The boys

Google AlertWhen a company which has it's European Headquarters here in Ireland is called 'evil' and 'immoral' by M.P.s in The House of Commons you tend to sit up and take notice. The particular company that was being referred to was Google and the reason it had enraged M.P.s in London was because even though it has a big operation there and conducts a lot of business there it pays no corporate tax.
