This year's festival will offer visitors three days of top quality national and international street art and world music on the streets, squares and parks of Ireland's oldest city.

  • The Waterford Healing Arts Trust's Healing Sounds with Kate Powell and William McGlynn

    The Waterford Healing Arts Trust's Healing Sounds music programme presented a live performance by Kate Powell and William McGlynn at Waterford Regional Hospital on Monday 4th July for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.

    Kate Powell started playing the violin from an early age and gained a solid classical training at school and University where she was a member of several orchestras, notably the Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra.

    Since moving to Ireland in 1997, she has been working with Theatre and children's programmes.

    William McGlynn has been a professional musican most of his working life and performed in many different music genres. He has spent the last 10 years playing classical double bass with various orchestras, notably the National Orchestra of Wales. He taught

    Celebrate Summer At Christ Church Cathedral

    Following the success of our annual Christmas Voices concert, Christ Church Cathedral is pleased to present the inaugural Summer Voices on August 6th. This concert will celebrate not only the summer but also the young, local talent that we have in our area. Performers on the night will include soprano Stephanie Foley, classical guitarist Shaun Walsh and violinist Marian Power. As well as presenting music with a summers theme, the concert will also include readings and poetry delivered by Tipperary-born actress, Joanne Quinn.

    The curator of the concert, Ruthie Edgeworth, was responsible for 2010's Christmas Voices and decided to extend the idea with a summer-themed concert.     A play by Marie Jones, author of the Broadway comedy Stones in His Pockets stars award-winning actor William Lyons as Kenneth McAlister, a working-class Protestant, during a fateful night in November 1993 in Belfast when the Republic of Ireland soccer team played against Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier.

    As the game progresses, Kenneth finds himself watching the crowd more than the football and exposing his anti-Catholic bigotry.

    William Lyons won the Best Actor Award for his performance in A NIGHT IN NOVEMBER at this year's All-Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone. Prior to taking home this top acting prize, he won seven best actor awards on the festival circuit for his work in the play.

    This week Artbeat is delighted to present MAD CLASS, Music Art & Drama.

    MAD CLASS was set up as a weekly class designed to explore the inner creativity of children.

    The activities include MUSIC (singing and percussion), ART (self expression through painting, drawing and craft) and DRAMA (creative expression through movement, mime and acting).

    In March 2011 MAD CLASS performed their first show. The children of MAD CLASS designed the sets, costumes, posters, flyers and tickets.

    They conceived dance routines and wrote plays which they performed on stage for the show.

    One of the aims of MAD CLASS is to boost children's confidence and this is very much in evidence at the MAD CLASS show!

    MAD CLASS is a weekly class in Klub Musik, Riverstown, Tramore running from September to June, and there's a Summer Camp in July.

    Local writer Derbhile Dromey has recently published her first novel, The Pink Cage. It's published by new boutique publishers Book Republic and tells the tale of a girl with hair the colour of day old snow and a love that's not quite forbidden. The hardback edition has already sold out and the novel has just been released in paperback on Amazon and The Book Depository.   • Les Miserables "She's Back"

    Following on from their sold out run of the worlds favourite musical "LES MISERABLES" in April of this year SOUTH EASTERN YOUTH THEATRE GROUP are delighted to announce that they will return to the stage of the Theatre Royal Waterford for four nights only Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th of September.

  • Art Exhibition by Ann Brennan at Central Library

    An art exhibition by Ann Brennan is on display in the Index Gallery, Central Library until Friday 29th July. Ann Brennan is a self taught artist working from her home based studio in Ballingarry, Co. Tipperary. She works mainly in oils with a small number of abstracts in acrylics. Her work is primarily concerned with the study of light, and its relationship to landscape and seascape. Her work can also be viewed on her website – http://www.annbrennanart.com She tends to explore the natural beauty of our country and locality. She exhibits throughout the year in various venues.   • Partyworld get on board Tall Ships' World Record Attempt

    Taking part in the World Record Pirates Attempt during the Tall Ships Festival, following their interview with 2fm's Hector Ó hEochagáin, were (back l-r:) Caroline Senior, Director of Garter Lane, Karen Cheevers, Sonya Kelly, David Acheson and Liz Acheson of Partyworld.

    Partyworld, based in the Riverstown Business Park in Tramore, Co. Waterford, got on board with the Guinness World Record attempt to host the largest gathering of pirates in the world which took place on Friday, July 1st. Partyworld supplied 1,000 free "Pirate Packs" for the event and even kitted out MC for the event, Cap'n Roddie "Jolly Roger" Cleere.

  • TooDog and Denise Bound for Newfoundland

    TooDog Theatre Company's production of An Evening of Love and War featuring two one act plays written and performed by Waterford's Denise Quinn has been booked to travel to Newfoundland in Canada as part of the Ireland/Newfoundland Festival which takes place from the 16th to the 24th of September.

    Denise (much to her delight) was invited to take the two plays to Canada as part of the international Festival, after performing at the Clancy Brothers Festival in Carrick on Suir in June. This production which has been touring Ireland since March has won great critical acclaim and received a tremendous response from audiences all over the country. It has been described by the critics as ‘Top Theatre', ‘A master class in comic performance' ‘Hilarious' and as having‘ mesmerised the audience'.
