Kerry, the aristocrats of Senior football, arrived in Dungarvan on Sunday last for the Munster final and justified their favourites tag with little or no fuss into the bargain. The All-Ireland champions were taking no chances with this encounter at Fraher Field and came to town with a full panel of players and all the "big guns" in tow. It's not often that here in Waterford we get a chance to see the Kingdom up close as reigning champions and although this was really a mis-match one could not but have been impressed with the fitness and skill level of the Kerry players. For their part Waterford although well out of the running, never gave up and even in the dying minutes they very nearly saw efforts end up in the back of Diarmuid Murphy's net but for "Lady Luck"

Athletics by the All Rounder

On one of the best days ever for athletes from Waterford schools at the All Ireland Championships in Tullamore last Saturday, the gold medal haul was seventeen individual plus one relay award. Add to this six silver medals and six bronze and the results speak for themselves. Congratulations to one and all and indeed to the many others who had great performances without getting into the medals and of course their mentors and coaches.

waterford united 1 - 3 UCD

WHEN Waterford United and UCD met in their first league game at Belfield, the Students' recorded an easy victory and it was to be second degree ‘Byrne's’ for Waterford at the RSC as Conan and Paul inflicted defeat on United, winning by three goals to one. They were the thorn in the Blues side for the second meeting of the sides as UCD were just too classy for a United side who suffered their first league defeat since losing away to Longford Town at Flancare Park.

While the better team won the match and to that there could be no complaint, however they did get more than just a helping from Dublin referee Neil Doyle, who was in the thick of the action but in truth, UCD were just too good on the night.
