  • Time and Tide

    Wednesday, 29th June 2011

As the Tall Ships sail once more into Waterford , Time and Tide strives to capture the essence of Waterford's maritime history: the tang of salt that drifts on the Waterford air, the sun and shade as it is reflected on the Irish sea around Waterford's coast and the noisy chop and swirl of waves that act as percussion in Waterford's heartbeat forever.

Ken, a local artist who has previously impressed with his 2008 show at the Waterford Treasures, Eist le Fuaim na Mara, draws his inspiration from the rugged aesthetic of the Waterford coastline, its fragility and its strength. Time and Tide explores the earthy respect Waterford holds for the sea and shore around the county, its strength and its beauties.

Ken works in fresh, naturalistic colours with a precise eye that captures

Beautifully crafted flights of fancy dripping with subtle phrasing, coupled with ingenious unexpected twists all delivered with Tiernans trademark verve, mark this show out as a truly unmissable event.

Go see him soon, see him often because if there's one thing about Tommy that's indicative of his undoubted talent is that his hilarious, challenging and

  • Waterford Hoteliers condemn JLC report as economic fudge

    Wednesday, 29th June 2011

Commenting on early indications regarding the content of the Independent Review of the Joint Labour Committees (JLCs), Waterford hoteliers rejected the report as an economic fudge out of touch with the realities confronting tourism businesses across the country.

Bettie-Marie Burger Smit, Chair of the South East Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) condemned the report as a lost opportunity to tackle one of the sector's most pressing issues, stating that the JLC system severely undermines the viability of Ireland's tourism industry. Ms Burger Smit said the authors had failed to make an impartial assessment of the economic facts. Feedback from participants who presented to the review group reveals the authors were solely focused on tinkering with the JLC system without any serious intention to consider abolition. This suggests a determination to defend the existence of JLCs.

  • A Government Success

Once in a blue moon. As rare as hen's teeth. A Government success. Each of those three sentences are as unusual and as rare as each other. But the last one seems to be about to take place.
