  • The boys doing well!

    Wednesday, 2nd May 2007

Imagine if a local lad from Waterford was playing with one of the top football clubs in the world. Picture him in the dressing room before games, receiving his instructions from the most successful manager the game has produced. See him stand shoulder to shoulder with the cream of European and world players before doing battle with gallacticos from the best leagues around. Wouldn’t that make us proud?

This isn’t Roy of the Rovers stuff. This is the reality for John O’Shea. And he doesn’t get the accolades he deserves. Forever berated by the “he’s not a great player” jury of Giles and Dunphy. Rebuffed by 50% of the Irish soccer public because he doesn’t play in the red of Liverpool. Snubbed by critics because he can’t lock down a single position. Enough. 8 years a professional with Manchester United.

  • SAVIIOURS OF SPACE -- LL IIFT OFF

    Wednesday, 2nd May 2007

It’s almost palpable, that feeling of things happening for so many different Waterford bands. That they make music that is better than anywhere else in the country makes for a wonderful vibe around and about little ole Waterford. That any one of them would get to deliver their no bullshit message from the national stage, and beyond, would be fantastic. Just last week exciting Waterford outfit, Saviours Of Space won the Student Music Awards in front of a unanimous and ecstatic set of judges who were quite simply overwhelmed. More importantly for SOS is the fact that the mark that the band left was more than a routine competition victory. A sense that something special had happened permeated Dublin’s Village and that ‘something special’ was Saviours Of Space.

The prize itself consists of five days recording in Religion music, €1000
