Lisa will be playing fan favourites from her brilliant debut "Sea Sew”, as well as a selection of new songs from her upcoming second album, recently recorded in a converted farmhouse studio in the middle of Snowdonia national park in Wales.   • The Kanyu Tree & Beatles @ BoHo

    The Kanyu Tree are Daniel, Shane and Oisín Cluskey, 3 brothers from Salthill in Galway. Their debut single 'Radio' was released on Sony Music Ireland in April and is enjoying massive radio airplay all over the country.   • Waterford City - No fund for Africa Day

    Waterford is the only city in the country not to be granted funding for this year's celeberation of Africia Day. However, the Waterford Council of Trade Unions has decided to fund an event to celebrate the day with a public talk and audio-visual presentation under the title:

    John Coltrane: Jazz, Racism and Resistance: which will be held in Greyfrairs, on Wednesday 25th May at 8pm. The speaker is Martin Smith, London based author and anti-racist activist.

    Tom Creedon, president of the WCTU said "its important we celebrate multi-cultural Ireland, its diversity and the different cultural dimensions it brings. "

    Tom Creedon also said, "whilst there is anecodatal evidience to suggest low level racism is on the rise, Waterford has escaped its worst manifestations, as wittnessed in some other European countries".

  • Eden goes down a storm at the Theatre Royal

    Playwright Eugene O'Brien has been thrilled with the reaction to his play Eden which has opened to great acclaim in the Theatre Royal. In Waterford for the opening night, Eugene has a long relationship with Ben Barnes, director of the Theatre Royal as it was Ben who first discovered the play over 10 years ago when he was Artistic Director of the Abbey theatre.

  • Theatre Royal's 'Eden' welcomes drama interns behind the scenes

    The Theatre Royal has invited Waterford theatre and drama students to work as interns on their latest production Eden, by Eugene O'Brien. Students from the Red Kettle Theatre Academy have been shadowing theatre professionals in marketing, production, lighting design, sound design, acting and directing on this play.

    Set up in November 2010, Red Kettle Theatre Academy is an introductory course in Theatre and Drama Studies which covers all aspects of theatre production. Twenty four participants are engaged on a daily basis in exciting activities and workshops at the academy. It is a FÁS funded course with FETAC accreditation under the guidance of FÁS and the Red Kettle Theatre Company. One of these exciting educational projects is the opportunity for students to collaborate and shadow on a professional production.

  • Photonerds exhibition at Garter Lane Gallery

    Garter Lane is pleased to present 36 Frames, a photography exhibition consisting of work produced by The Photonerds Camera Club.

    Photonerds Camera Club was formed in Waterford in July of 2010 in response to growing demand for an alternative camera club. The club have weekly meetings and work on projects set by club founder Katie Kavanagh with the aim of producing innovative photography in a supportive environment. The club often have professional photographers offer their guidance to members through a series of workshops. It is through the support and encouragement of the club setting that member's photography skills develop and flourish.

    For this 36 Frames photographic exhibition each club member was given the same list of topics and was asked to interpret this list through the art of photography. The exhibition will open to the public at Garter Lane Theatre Gallery, 22A

  • Imagine to get the word out

    Imagine Arts Festival has had some other good news with the decision by FAS to support them this year with the appointment of a Marketing Graduate Scheme placement for the next nine months. As Ollie Breslin of Imagine described "Up to now we could be accused of failing to get the word out about what we have on offer.

    For example I was watching Jools Holland recently and two acts on his programme had been in Imagine in recent times - namely Ron Sexsmith and The Unthanks.

    Our failure is getting the word out to the region and the rest of the country about what we are doing - we have a good product on offer. The appointment of a Marketing person will certainly help".

  • Waterford Male Voice Choir Gala Summer Concert

    Fresh from its recent victory in the Premier National Competition for Male Voice Choirs at Cork International Choral Festival, Waterford Male Voice Choir is hosting its annual summer concert on Thursday 2nd June at 8pm in the Tower Hotel Waterford.

    The concert ends another busy and successful choral year prior to the choir's participation in the Tall Ships Festival. During the past 12 months it organised three major concerts, various church performances, mental health week public recital and carol singing at the Rotary Tree, senior citizens institutions and schools at Christmas. Its CD "Memories and Melodies” was successfully launched by Mayor Mary Roche prior to the festive season.
