    Wednesday, 18th May 2011

    "unmissable" Irish Examiner

Theatre lovers in Waterford will remember enjoying the amazing show Tom Crean Antarctic Explorer at Garter Lane Theatre. We're delighted that its creator and performer Aidan Dooley returns Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th May at 8pm with the Irish touring première of his one-man show O'Sullivan Beara - The last Gaelic Chieftain with tickets €20 (?15 Garter Lane Friends & concs) on 051-855038 or http://www.garterlane.ie, in this epic story of a Gaelic Chieftain who refused to surrender and "audiences won't be disappointed."

In the show Aidan Dooley awakens a forgotten ‘great' in Irish history. O'Sullivan Beara was the last Rebel left standing against the Crown after the Battle of Kinsale in 1602. Using Celtic myths, an original score and brilliant storytelling, Aidan tells the true tale of how this heroic leader of the people of Beara tried

  • Tommy Tiernan's "Crooked Man" for Forum Waterford

    Wednesday, 18th May 2011

Forum Waterford are delighted to announce that comedic legend Tommy Tiernan will return to Forum Waterford on Thursday, June 30th and Friday July 1st with his new show "Crooked Man"

With his latest show 'Crooked Man' Tiernan is very much in tune with his own deepest, darkest and embarrassing thoughts and the perils of turning 40, which luckily for us he is not shy about sharing. Cursed rather than blessed with a sense of honesty, integrity and outrage, as ever with a Tiernan show, the devil is in the detail. Beautifully crafted flights of fancy dripping with subtle phrasing, coupled with ingenious unexpected twists all delivered with Tiernans trademark verve, mark this show out as a truly unmissable event.

Go see him soon, see him often because if there's one thing about Tommy that's indicative of his undoubted talent is that his

  • Don Mescall at The Vic

    Wednesday, 18th May 2011

Don Mescall is synonymous with acoustic music of the highest order and deepest emotional depths, playing sell out shows to audience's who know what they're letting themselves in for and keep coming back for more.

His singles, "Trouble Is" and "Left in L.A." from his debut album "Innocent Run" are A list favourites on Irish radio stations, and as a regular on The Late Late Show, Pat Kenny's radio show and Ireland AM.tv shows, Don has continued to play live to a huge following in Ireland and the UK.

In describing Mescall's music, the press typically makes reference to the styles of classic artists such as Paul Simon, Jackson Browne or a laid-back Springsteen, whilst the fresher-faced draw somewhat clichéd parallels to hugely successful contemporary singer/songwriters, the likes of David Gray and fellow Irishman, Damien Rice.

"Don has been partly responsible for the

  • The Past Is Never Truly In The Past

    Wednesday, 18th May 2011

Who says kids aren't interested in history!? The 12-14 year olds from Waterford Youth Arts are breaking the mould with their timeless play When Do You Come From? Set around the Ballybricken area, the plot tells the story of a group of young teenagers who discover that the past is never truly 'dead'. Written by Martina Collender, this play is really giving these young people a chance to showcase their talent to the community.

Under the direction of Beki Moore, this play is rather unique as it is a 'promenade play', meaning that the audience will be led by the cast to a number of different locations; from the Ballybricken graveyard, through Mayor's Walk, along Patrick's Street and to St. Patrick's Methodist Church. A truly ecumenical journey!

The young 17-year-old director Beki had this to say - "When I was asked to

This will be very exciting as a new choral work for Waterford entitled Come The Sails will be performed by members of many choirs in Waterford. Five composers have collaborated with five poets to create this unique choral work, which has a duration of approximately nine minutes. To secure participation in this unique event, which is on a first come first served basis, members are asked to return their completed forms

It does this by having all of its financial transactions finished here in Ireland. And the company here is …
