    One of the great Giuseppe Verdi's most popular and enduring operas "Il Trovatore' will be seen by an expected record Met Live audience in Dungarvan when it is relayed live from the Metropolitan New York to SGC Cinema at 6 pm on Saturday 30th April. A number of venues nationwide have already sold out initial screenings and additional screens and special "encore' performances are being organised to meet demand.

    The instantly recognisable Anvil chorus is just one of the many musical highlights of Verdi's high drama of love, murder, a gypsy curse, betrayal and revenge, played out against a backdrop of a bloody civil war in Spain.

  • Second concert in Orchestral Series for Primary Schools

    Last June approximately three thousand primary school children from all over the south east came to the Theatre Royal, Waterford to see a live orchestra in performance.

    This was the first concert in the Primary Schools Orchestral Series run by Kevin O'Carroll Music. Acclaimed as a huge success, the orchestral series is designed as an introduction to the orchestra for young people and it both entertains and educates showing that music in all its forms can be fun.

    The full orchestra provided an hour long presentation which included music from the classical and popular catalogue. One of the key elements was the introduction of the individual members of the brass family in the orchestra, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone and Tuba.

    The second concert, in what is designed as a four year cycle, will be presented in the Theatre Royal from June 14th to 17th

    Captured Time II is an exhibition of artworks and writing by renal patients Frank Curtis and Johanna Tanner, and artist Philip Cullen, created through the Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) art programme in the Dialysis Unit of Waterford Regional Hospital.

    The exhibition will be officially launched by Fr. Liam Lawton at 7.30pm on Thursday 5th May in the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health. The exhibition which has been kindly sponsored by Audi Waterford will remain on display until the 9th June 2011.

Frank, a dairy farmer, had never made art before coming to the dialysis unit and according to him "drawing with pencil is a great past-time to take your mind away from dialysis.   • Waterford hosts first Texaco art winners' exhibition

    The first exhibition of winning art works from this year's 57th Texaco Children's Art Competition will take place in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford from Friday 29 April until Thursday 19 May. Admission is free and the Cathedral is open Mon – Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 10am-4pm.

    The exhibition will be officially opened by Councillor Mary Roche, Mayor of Waterford on Wednesday 4th May at 12 noon. Among the paintings on display will be works by the eight Waterford winners who took top prizes in the event.

    These include a work entitled "Florence' by Dónal Ó'Cionnfhaolaidh from De La Salle College which won third prize in the 14-15 years age category and another third prize winner entitled "Robins in the Snow' by Thomas Sullivan from Waterpark College.
