    In honour of Waterford's proud heritage of Bank Holiday weekends and Ska gigs, The Forum brings you the "heavy heavy monster sound" of SKASTOCK this Bank Holiday Sunday, 1st May. The night will feature the 2 best ska bands in the country, Dublin's Special Brew and our own Skunk, with a sprinkling of mod tunes thrown in courtesy of The Toniks.   • Chamber Philharmonic Europe at Christ Church Cathedral

    On Thursday May 5th at 8pm Christ Church Cathedral will be host to the talented Chamber Philharmonic Europe, a private orchestra founded in 2006 in Cologne. Since then they have brought versatile sounds and complex emotions to some of Europe's leading venues including Thèatre des Bouffes-Parisiens, Paris and De Munt Oper, Brussels. The ensemble engages musicians to create a demanding artistic ensemble and this is reflected in their programme of Bach, Vivaldi, Faurè, Grieg and Hummel. They are joined by two renowned soloists, Pawel Zuzanski on violin and Kirill Gusarov on trumpet.

    Waterford Seniors celebrate creativity and the arts during the Bealtaine Festival, taking place throughout Waterford City Libraries in May"

    May belongs to the Bealtaine festival and this year's Bealtaine theme is "Push the boat out, whatever the sea".

    Celebrating creativity for the older person (over 55's), Waterford City Library Service has compiled a jam packed schedule of art, dance, digital photography, pilates, techno clinics and gardening workshops.

    According to Age & Opportunity, which coordinates the festival, an estimated 57,000 people now take part in the Bealtaine festival, making it one of Ireland's biggest arts festivals.

    Local businesswoman, Danette Connolly of Home Instead Senior Care, which provides home care for Waterford seniors, has welcomed the festival and the work of Waterford City Library Service.

    TooDog Theatre Company has been wowing audiences and critics with their touring production of two one act plays, Bardot Bites and Lucy Bastible written by Waterford's Denise Quinn. Denise is well known to Waterford audiences through her many roles with WDS, having most recently played Ginnie Gogan in their 2010 sell out production of The Plough and The Stars. This production sees Denise playing the role of 45 year old Bid in Bardot Bites. In this light hearted comedy Bid, after the death of her mother and under duress from her manipulative older sister "Francine the Beauty Queen' enters the world of work. She embarks on a career on the cheese counter of the local deli where she learns the ways of cheese and men and succeeds in teaching Francine a long overdue lesson.

    Little Red Kettle are now taking bookings for their weekly Drama and Theatre Workshops. These fun packed classes will be for the age groups 8 to 10 and 11 to 13 and will begin on the Tuesday, 3rd May (8 to 10 year olds) Thursday 5th May (11 to 13 year olds) from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. The groups will be working with Little Red Kettle's director of the Summer Play and in house writer of the Schools Tour Play, Liam Meagher. Liam will be working on all aspects of theatre, specially script writing and acting development, and of course you can expect the usual festivities that Little Red Kettle has to offer. The workshops are €60 for the 8 week term and if there are 2 children in a family attending, we have a special rate of €100 for both.

    This prestigious award will enable the chosen artist to spend two weeks at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, the artists' workplace in County Monaghan during 2011. It covers all board and lodging expenses plus the use of a studio if required.
