    Waterford Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC) is delighted to announce that it will host a Talk on Volunteering at Ardkeen Library, Waterford on Friday 6th May at 10.30am and at Central Library, Lady Lane, Waterford at 3.00pm on the same day. The talk will be given by a member of staff from Volunteering Ireland and will last for approximately one hour. The talk will centre on different types of voluntary activity, how to get involved in your local community and why you should engage in voluntary activity.

  • Superschools opens at St. Augustine's

    The Thirteenth Superschools Competition, the Eurolympics for schools from six different countries of Europe commenced in St. Augustine's College, Dungarvan yesterday (Tuesday). On Monday last, teams from Bjorkvalisskolen, Sweden; last year's hosts, College Pierre et Marie Curie from France; Pen Y Dre High School, Wales; Jean Jaures College, Bourbourg, France; Kannelmaki College, Finland and Cardinal Wiseman College, Coventry arrived at St. Augustines and assembled for the Official Opening of the games at 9pm in the College Gym.

    There, the teams were formally welcomed to the town by the Mayor of Dungarvan, Cllr. Tom Higgins, as well as College Principal, Mr. Joe Moynihan. In his address, the Mayor welcomed all of the International teams and wished them good competition, enjoyment and friendship during their stay here.     The great outdoor National Spring Clean of the beaches on the Ring peninsula is scheduled for next Saturday April 30th from 11am โ€“ 1pm, and everybody is welcome to come along and pitch in. Suitable for all ages, this free outdoor activity is a great way to do our bit for the environment while enjoying the splendid coastal scenery.

    "There is an enormous increase in the number of people using the beaches for outdoor recreation year round" says CMR committee member Anne Kenneally, "and we welcome your participation too!"

    The meeting points are: The Cunningar car park; Baile na nGall Pier; Helvick Pier car park, Poul a Bhuca. Bags and gloves will be provided but please bring your own pickers, if you wish.

    Keep your Census form handy is the message this week from the Central Statistics Office to householders in Waterford whose form has yet to be collected.

    According to Deirdre Cullen, Senior Statistician at the CSO: "We hope to finish the collections very shortly so that we can being processing the data so please do keep your census form handy. And if your enumerator has left a note saying they called please contact them via the mobile phone number on the card"
