An Agriculture Commentator from Rathgormack, County Waterford Michael Flynn has said Teagasc need to show the true costs on farms. He claimed they are doing a great injustice to farmers and young people who start farming by not including all costs. Mr. Flynn said costs like Health Insurance, Farm Insurance, Life Assurance, Universal social Charge, Tax rate, Loan repayments and their biggest omission of all labour costs for all who work on the farm must be included.

Teagasc must accurately show where we are if the gains are to be achieved that are predicted in the Food Harvest 2020 report. These new figures will prove that the Agriculture sector need a stimulus plan to kick start investment on farms or else farmers will not invest Mr. Flynn claims. • Waterford Triathlon Club - European Duathlon Champs

    Wednesday, 27th April 2011

Last weekend, four club members represented Ireland in the European Duathlon championships which were held in Limerick city. There were over 300 competitors from all over Europe who had qualified to take part in their respective age-groups so the standard was very high. The course was quite technical with 4 laps in the first 10k run, with lots of little loops. The 40k bike had a few sharp turnaround points on the 5lap course where the cyclists had to almost stop to negotiate safely and the final 5k run had 2 laps. All these laps were great for spectators though, with plenty of Irish competitors to shout on. Norma Goggin was 1st to start with Barry Lambe 5 mins later and Shane Scadding another 5 min later. All
