  • The Guinea Pig Diaries

    Wednesday, 16th February 2011

Waterford Today's resident guinea pig at it again!

    In a bind

So, you've done the new year's resolution bit, but quite frankly January is gone and so is your resolve to walk/jog/cycle 5 miles a day and stay away from the cookie jar. You're so over it, especially seeing as the effort you did make for the last few weeks returned surprisingly few results. Isn't it amazing how a bit of turkey and ham plus a few drinks and the odd dip into the tin of roses can cause an extra layer of blubber that a month of sensible eating and exercise barely makes a dent in! It's enough to make you give in . . . almost.

Wouldn't it be great to give yourself a kickstart, just drop a couple of pounds to keep the impetus going and stop your resolve from

    Wednesday, 16th February 2011

FG plans can only lead to increases in bus and train fares – Kenneally

"A hidden, but significant part, of the Fine Gael fiscal plans announced will lead to increases in bus and train fares for Waterford people," according to Waterford Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Kenneally.

"I believe that people who use public transport are entitled to see the full picture from Fine Gael in terms of the increases in fares."

"In the plans outlined by Enda Kenny and Michael Noonan they said that they would cut "at least" €100 million to transport operators. What they do not spell out is that this will have direct implications for the paying public who use public transport."

"Fine Gael has attempted to hide this stealth charge within their plans. For too long they have been quick to criticise but when called upon to produce a

  • A Government Success

Once in a blue moon. As rare as hen's teeth. A Government success. Each of those three sentences are as unusual and as rare as each other. But the last one seems to be about to take place. The Government has announced that it plans to give each child in the State a second year of free pre-school. It might not sound like earth shattering news but if it does happen then it could be one of the most significant things that this Government has done since it took office.
